Alexander Technique for 8-16 year olds

Children can enjoy the benefits of the Alexander Technique just as much as adults. Alexander lessons compliment other activities such as music tuition, dancing, swimming and sports. Children often report improved performance and a greater all-round confidence in physical activity.
As a parent myself I am well aware of the need to be sensitive, encouraging and caring in all my work with children. Private teaching takes places at my teaching practice in Penylan where parents are welcome to attend and discuss any concerns they or the child may have.
Working with children at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the Junior Music and Access Studies Department has given me experience of working with a diverse group of children including some with special educational needs. Whether in the classroom or at home, poor posture or discomfort when sitting can make learning less enjoyable and contribute to a child failing to reach their full educational potential.
My approach to teaching is to find out what is of interest and relevance to the child because children learn best when focussed on what genuinely motivates them. We then consider how various activities, usually chosen by them, can be performed effectively. Activities can include playing a musical instrument, singing, swinging a cricket bat, writing, drawing, playing darts, or simply sitting or walking. Whatever the activity, the principles of the Alexander Technique are explored in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.
